i've been told by someone that in Russia "part kits" are sold to remove the 4x4 from the Niva and make it a 2wd vehicle.
I suppose it's about taking off the transfer case and installing one single propeller shaft joining together the gearbox and the rear axle. But I am just guessing.
I would like to have a look at such kits. Can you please tell me where to find them, if you know, or at least some keywords in Russian so that I might be able to use google with them?

Niva with 2wd becomes useless, unreliable and dangerous because of it's geometry and other technical reasons.
My advice - just forget about it ;)

I am not going to do it because I don't want to lose what makes the Niva special - the 4x4. But I am trying to understand about technical stuff to understand why the Niva would be a worse care if "remade" as a 2wd than other cars... I just like to understand things even when they are not necessary, it's in my nature :)

I have just read it. It's interesting as a experience and actually quite scary. I would not want to drive such a car.
Where I am taking my Niva (close to the Atlantic Ocean in Spain) the weather is quite rainy, similar to England. But at least we have no snow there. Well, we do use to have one or two days of snow in December.
